A First Look Inside Breckenridge’s Stunning New Imperial Hotel and Alpine Chalet Residences

Originally published in Forbes on February 5, 2026

Finale, a new Colorado resort development, will include the Imperial Hotel, ski-in/ski-out chalets, and private residences with direct slope access.

Ski-in, ski-out properties in Breckenridge, Colorado have always been highly valued, but they are becoming rare. At the base of Peak 8, where the resort’s modern ski tourism began, the Imperial Hotel is taking shape as the centerpiece of the new Finale master plan. Many see it as the last slopeside development in the area.

The 36-room Imperial Hotel is set to open in phases starting in 2027 and is likely to be the last new ski-in, ski-out hotel built in Breckenridge. This project comes as more luxury mountain buyers look for secure locations, privacy, and long term ownership.

Imperial Chalets

The Imperial stands out from the larger resort complexes of past ski developments by offering a more intimate setting. It is a boutique alpine retreat with hotel rooms, fractional residences, and a small number of fully owned chalets along the mountainside. The development plans to join The Leading Hotels of the World, a collection of independent luxury properties known for personal service and a residential feel.

The biggest advantage of the new development is easy access. Owners and guests can walk straight from their private ski storage to Peak 8, which is usually hard to reach during busy seasons because of traffic and crowds.

The main residential options are the Imperial Chalets (starting at $4.19 million), including a limited collection of just 13 residences in Phase One, which include two-to five-bedroom homes designed for full ownership and year-round living. DTJ Design created the architecture, and Styleworks handled the interiors, blending modern lines with classic stone, timber, and textured finishes you often see in traditional mountain homes.

These homes use a hybrid hospitality model that is becoming more popular with ultra-high-net-worth buyers. Owners enjoy the privacy and independence of a single-family home, along with access to concierge services, dining, wellness programs, and property management usually found in luxury hotels.

In addition to Imperial Hotel and Chalets, the Finale master-planned community also offers 16 Independence Townhomes, Victory Ridge slopeside homesites, and single-family residences.

Guest room at Imperial Hotel

Unique wellness features have become a key part of luxury resort real estate, and the Imperial will offer a full recovery-focused design. The Remedy Spa provides treatments to help guests adjust to the altitude and recover after activities. Next to the spa, the Thalassotherapy-inspired Fire and Ice Grotto offers a complete hydrothermal circuit with steam rooms, saunas, salt caverns, red-light therapy, and contrast plunge pools. This experience, inspired by European thermal traditions, will offer guests and residents the year-round outdoor lifestyle found in top mountain communities.

The development offers over 70,000 square feet of shared amenities that feel like an extension of your home, not just typical resort features. With indoor and outdoor pools, private cinema lounges, fitness studios, and social spaces just for owners, it supports the trend of longer seasonal stays for second-home owners.

One of the project’s unique features is the Sky Domes, glass geodesic structures set up for private gatherings, special dining experiences, and stargazing. This idea reflects a move toward more personalized, small-scale luxury in residential resorts.

Dining at the Imperial is designed to fit the pace of mountain life. Still on the Hill will be both a steak house and distillery, with an all-day menu inspired by the mountains. Toasted Oak, the lobby lounge, will be the main social area, offering craft cocktails and live music.

For owners who want to host private events, the development offers special spaces like a formal dining room, a demonstration kitchen, and The Vault. The Vault is a speakeasy-style lounge where you can enjoy curated tastings, mixology classes, and store your own spirits.

Breckenridge started as a mining settlement in the 1800s, but everything changed when the ski resort opened in 1961. Since then, the area has grown steadily, property values have climbed, and there are now fewer slopeside properties available.

Now that there is almost no land left to build on, projects like the Imperial Hotel are among the last of their kind. These developments do more than add new homes, they show how luxury mountain living is changing, with exclusivity now focused on location and high-quality services.
